Help me keep teaching kids empathy through theatre

I've never been good at asking for help but I'm learning that letting people in is part of healing.

This past year has been heavy. I found myself in a health crisis, carried high costs along with that, and took real time to get well and remember who I am. I’m grateful to my family (blood and chosen) for their support as we have navigated this.

By happy accident, I found my way back to theatre and have been working as a teaching artist, directing children’s theatre and performing arts programs after-school. I have found such purpose in this work, and I am grateful to have the opportunity to foster empathy with these students. It’s more than just fun. Every day I get to share with kids why it is important to step into someone else’s shoes, while helping them find their confidence and their voice. It’s helped me to find my own again, too.

This shift in lifestyle has been necessary. I’ve got several things in motion to make this change sustainable; they're just a beat behind the bills right now. This stretch is the gap before they land — so I'm doing the hard thing and asking for help building the bridge to cross it. Any kindness, even $10, brings me closer. Bolt or beam, we create out of parts.

With so much love ,
Kylee
