I am an Uber driver who relies on my car for work, and I’ve always tried to do my best to support myself and my family. Recently, I discovered that I owed tolls to the Department of Transportation from a car I had in the past. Over time, the tolls increased due to late fees that I wasn’t aware of, and now the state is threatening to block me from renewing my driver’s license unless I pay the full amount. I am losing my license on my birthday, April 23rd, so there are only ten days left for me to solve this dilemma.
I tried to explain my situation and even filed a medical hardship appeal, since I’ve had multiple surgeries and can’t afford to pay what they’re asking. Unfortunately, my appeal was rejected on a technicality, and I’m left with no other options.
Losing my license would mean losing my only source of income, as Uber is the only job I can do because of the flexible hours and low physical impact. More importantly, I wouldn’t be able to take care of my sick mother, who lives one town over and depends on me for help. Without my license, I can’t work, run errands, or support my family the way I need to. This situation has been overwhelming, and I’m reaching out for help because I don’t know where else to turn.
Any donations are truly saving my life, and saving my mom’s life as well. I would have incredible gratitude for any help at all. Your support will help me pay the state, keep my license, continue providing safe rides to people in my community, and be there for my mom, who doesn’t have anyone else. The Department of Transportation hasn’t shown me any help or humanity, but I’m hoping that with your kindness, I can get through this difficult time. Thank you for reading and for any help you can give.
