Please Help Me Care for Charles at Home

Hello, My name is Beth McAllister and I am raising funds to get our house ready for my husband Charles to come home from the hospital. For those of you that don't know, Charles was admitted to Garnet Medical Center on 4/24/21 after I was unable to get him out of bed due to a broken pelvis. He has been battling stage 4 head and neck cancer for the past 3 years after 3 years of remission. The tumors in his pelvic bones, related muscles, and lymph nodes have caused multiple fractures, soft tissue damage, and excruciating pain. He has been getting daily radiation treatments for the past 2 weeks to target the left pelvic region, 9th posterior rib, and chest lymph nodes. He will resume chemotherapy tomorrow to target the disease more systemically. His oncologist and physiatrist are trying to transfer him from the Oncology unit to the rehab unit at Garnet to prepare him for discharge in the coming weeks. The PT saw him yesterday to assess his ability to transfer out of bed and he did really well without putting weight on his left leg. I helped him to the commode today using the walker to pivot and he did great! I am working hard in the background to order the equipment necessary to get Charles home. We have 5 stairs to get to the main level of our rental house and a portable wheelchair ramp is not covered by insurance. I would also like to get him an air mattress overlay for the hospital bed, bariatric commode, upgraded cushion for the wheelchair, and lift recliner since he will not be able to make it upstairs to our bedroom any more. The bed and wheelchair are in the process of being ordered, but may take several weeks to get set up, so we may have to rent equipment until we get insurance approval. I anticipate having to take more time off of work to care for Charles at home and get him to and from appointments.

It is with the utmost humility that I ask for any assistance you could provide to help our family through this challenging process. Charles is such an amazing husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend to many! Please help me get him home so he can enjoy life and continue to kick cancer's butt!!! ❤❤❤
