I am thrilled to share that I have been accepted into the SCUBA program at my university, a life-changing opportunity that will help me gain the skills and certifications I need to pursue a career in marine science. This program is a crucial step for me, as it will allow me to earn both open water and scientific diving certifications—qualifications that are often out of reach for students without significant financial support. As an out-of-state student, the tuition for this intensive two-week program is a significant challenge for me as I am responsible for paying my own tuition.
Throughout my undergraduate journey, I have been dedicated to making the most of every opportunity. For almost two years, I have served as an ambassador for the College of Earth, Ocean, and Environment, meeting with prospective and admitted students to share my experiences in Marine Science and the endless opportunities awaiting them at UD. I've participated in study abroad programs as a World Scholar, undergraduate research opportunities as a UDRAW and Summer Scholar participant, and hands-on experiential learning through my year in the Semester-in-Residence Program. These experiences have shaped my passion for marine science and my commitment to giving back to the community.
I am incredibly grateful to have received scholarships and additional assistance from my university, which has helped reduce my remaining need. Despite this generous support, the remaining amount is still beyond my means. These certifications are essential for my future in marine science, and your support would help me overcome this financial barrier and take the next step toward my dream career.
I hope you’ll consider supporting me—this money would be truly life-changing, helping me build a more secure future after graduation. Your encouragement and generosity will help me as I prepare to move to New Orleans for a year of service with AmeriCorps. I am deeply grateful for any help you can give, and I promise to pay it forward in my future work and service.
