My name is Kelly, and I had the honor of calling Denise Tunisha Daniel my sister.

Denise was the heartbeat of our family—family-centered, courageous, and always putting others before herself. She showed up for everyone, checked in constantly, and gave her time freely to serve in churches, soup kitchens, and shelters. Her kindness was steady, and her love was unconditional.

She was an overcomer in every sense of the word—beating breast cancer 15 years ago, and then pushing through her 2020 ovarian cancer diagnosis and other health challenges with grace and humility. If you watched her closely, you saw her masterclass in how to live through pain, adversity, and setbacks—always with an open heart and her beautiful smile.

I’ve been blessed to receive generous donations from my immediate family to begin covering her end-of-life costs. Their love and support have carried me through these first steps. But there are still significant expenses ahead, including:
  • Traveling to Delaware to care for her affairs
  • Receiving and bringing home her remains
  • Remaining end-of-life expenses
  • Any unknown costs that may arise
  • Memorial Service back home on Martha’s Vineyard at some point, a future date to be determined

Denise didn’t have life insurance due to her health challenges, and as her sister, health care proxy and executor of her will, I did my best to support her from afar while respecting her wish to remain independent in Dover, Delaware. I traveled back and forth when I could, making sure she knew she was loved and never alone.

If you knew Denise, you know she had a light about her—one that shined through every trial. That light deserves to be honored well.

Any contribution, no matter the size, will help me do just that. And if you can’t give, please consider sharing this page or leaving a memory, story, or photo of Denise. Your kindness and love mean more than I can ever say.

With Huge Hugs and Gratitude,
Kelly
