A few days ago, my grandmother passed away unexpectedly, and I'm still trying to process the shock of losing her. Creating this fundraiser was not something I originally wanted to do, but with encouragement and support from friends who know the situation, I realized it's okay to ask for help when things being overwhelming.
My grandma lived on disability and CPP and did not have savings set aside for funeral arrangements. Because of this, the responsibility for handling her arrangements and covering the costs has fallen to me.
I recently left a stable job to start my own small business, and while I’m working hard to build it, I’m currently in the early stages without steady income. Asking for help like this is not something that comes easily to me, but I want to do everything I can to honor my grandma’s wishes.
One of the things that meant the most to her was her adoptive parents. She always hoped that one day she would be buried beside them. The photo on this page is of my grandma visiting their graves. A place she would ask me to take her to and to tell me stories about her parents. My goal is to honor her wish and give her the peaceful resting place she always wanted.
Because my grandmother lived alone, I have had to take on the responsibility of handling everything after her passing, including arranging her funeral and cleaning and managing her condo where she passed. It has been an incredibly heavy and overwhelming experience during an already difficult time.
Government assistance only covers a small portion of funeral expenses, and the remaining costs are significant.
If you feel moved to help in any way, whether through a donation or simply sharing this page. It would mean more than I can express during this difficult time.
I truly appreciate anyone who takes a moment to read this and support me as I try to honor my grandma's final wishes.
With gratitude,
Melissa
