We've been best friends since I was 5 and she was 6, and now at 34, I can truly say Kayla Robinson was my soulmate—the other half of my being. We were like two halves of the same person, split by the universe as a cruel joke. Kayla was there for me through everything, helping to raise my four kids: Logan James, Zoë May, David Skylar, and Nolan Elias. She was my person, my family, and a 'father' to our kids.

Kayla endured so much pain and hardship in her life, and though she was already dying, the pain became too much to bear. Her passing has left a hole in the lives of her mom, stepdad, stepmom, dad, aunt, cousins, siblings, and countless friends. She will be so deeply and violently missed. We were supposed to grow old together, and now I am left to honor her memory and say goodbye.
