Dear Friends,
As you all know by now, back in April I went on a fascinating trip to Lebanon and I walked on the Lebanese Mountain Trail (LMT) which was an adventure that ended up changing my life.
The LMT, is a trail that was established and developed a few years ago and it continuously being maintained. The main purpose was to develop local ecotourism in Lebanon and more specifically in the mountain region.
I was of course stunned by the natural beauty and diversity of Lebanon. I also loved meeting like-minded people and believe or not, I came back with extra kilos thanks to the amazing food I savored . I truly hope all of you will experience this one day .
Additionally, I was impressed by the dedication of everyone who works on the LMT, whether on a voluntary basis or not. They truly care about the environment and about all the villages that hikers pass through. They raise awareness and introduce travelers to villages that they might have never visited.
The economical impact that this project has on those villages is significant. They encouraged the locals to open their houses and host hikers and on the other hand, the hikers discovered new villages with their own distinct cuisine and were happy to support the community by purchasing local products.
Before I left, I did this Fundraising to help people in need along the way; and I was touched by the friends who supported my cause. But due to the nature of the fundraising, GoFundMe. did not allow me to withdraw the fund before I left. I still ended up donating the equivalent amount from my account to people who truly needed it and appreciated it.
Recently, GoFundMe accepted to transfer the raised fund to a similar cause and knowing the impact of the LMTA on local communities, I picked the American Friends of the Lebanon Mountain Trail ( AFLMTA) https://aflmt.org as the association to receive the donations. They work hand-in-hand with the LMTA on various projects.
I wanted to update you about the donations you made as I thought it is important for you to know that the fund will be used for a cause that has a bigger impact that the one I had initially aimed for.
