Help me, Help Others. Education + Jobs for All

Donation protected
I'm a first generation student with a passion for people and social change. I am researching the protection of education, sustainability and our "right to work" which is threatened now more than ever by the rapid automation of the workforce. My post-graduate student loan (The max in this country is about £11,000) only covers less than 1/3 of my tuition. This is where I need your help.

For those of you who know me, "Hey", skip this next part, for those that don't. Let me introduce myself... For Corporate Inquiries, Scroll to the bottom, just before Finances.

Me
Youngest of 3, my parents grew up poor (1 in the USA, 1 in Wales). My parents sacrificed a lot for my education, even moving states to make sure I received the best education and scholarships available.
I have always tried to make something out of the sacrifice my parents made for me  through my education, volunteering in church, social and school organisations, my work etc...

I have now been presented with the once in a lifetime opportunity to undertake a Masters at The University of Cambridge.

I know, who would have thought I could get in?

Why a Masters? (Cambridge - Masters in Social Innovation )
My Masters in Social Innovation will tackle real social challenges with some of the brightest and greatest up and coming talent across the Government, Social and Corporate sectors.

There's only one problem, my masters is part time, which means most of the funding opportunities available to students aren't extended to us.

Many people on my course will be sponsored by their corporation, and the few with full scholarships are reserved for people living and working in Developing countries; half the course will study from abroad. I have been awarded a partial scholarship from my program, however, I work for a charity as an impact manager, thus my funds are a bit tight to take on the full financial burden of this Masters. I've even taken a second job at a restaurant in the evenings and weekends. However, I want to continue working in impact work because my research is extremely prevalent to the challenges people in many sectors face: LACK OF ACCESS TO EDUCATION AND TECHNOLOGY. I believe our current Climate Crisis is not only the most challenging issue our generation will face, but also the answer. Creating a work force around jobs in sustainability and using technology to automate the regeneration of our environment, and development of clean energy, eliminating the use of non-sustainable fuel sources and plastics.

Why research this? (United Nations Goals )
Our work process is being automated, with more and more jobs being replaced by tech and machinery,
creating an ever growing gap between those with access to technology and education (aka jobs and resource), and those without.

Recent reports from consultancy PwC suggest that "More than 10 million UK workers are at high risk of being replaced by robots within 15 years as the automation of routine tasks gathers pace in a new machine age." (PwC, UK Economic Outlook, 2019).

With latest projections estimating an approximated 200 Million Climate Refugees by 2050, this is an issue that will change the entire world. Sustainability Education is more than just "paper straws" or switching to electric fuel, it's policy, infrastructure, education, an entire system overhaul. Thus why these practices and frameworks have to be integrated into every sector through education.

Who will be affected most? (Find out more here )
Those in the warmest regions, as well as the many cities that are at or below sea level right now (NYC, parts of L.A., London, Singapore, and many more.

As work continues to automate, those who have GCSEs and A Level diplomas (High School Diplomas) are most vulnerable to working roles that will be fulfilled by automation.
With unemployment at its highest since 1971, this is an issue on an epidemic scale.
With tuition increasing for University students, we see university enrolments down for the 6th straight year.

Now although new technologies do introduce new jobs and sectors, access to these jobs is limited primarily to those who already have degrees, and we see that tech only creates 9% the amount of jobs it replaces.

Not to mention what that will look like on a global scale as Developed nations continue to race further ahead of those who can not afford to build a tech infrastructure ever continuing the gap between the haves and have nots.

So how do we tackle this together?
Initially, policy and law. Businesses and Governments come together to create the support necessary to transition education and access to it, at the same speed as the introduction of technology.  I hope to research this phenomena, the "right to work" and how some countries are tackling and ensuring people are educated and transitioned with the economy.  I currently collaborate with an organisation that is tackling this problem across Latin America, and they are doing it very successfully on a local scale, this has given me the opportunity to collaborate with the United Nations and International Trade Centre.

During my masters I will also be building a model for social change focused on connecting, educating and empowering those without access to technology and education through the existing workforce in those fields. This model will convert and create green jobs from the existing workforce, overcoming the barriers education and technology can present. Essentially leveraging the climate crisis to create a new, green work force, ensuring our planet has a future, and our future has an education. If successful, this model could be scaled into other nations and regions globally.
