Help Me Address COVID Learning Loss

Hi, my name is Ellen Cannon, and I am a public school teacher in New Orleans, Louisiana.
I teach 1st grade at an arts-integrated charter school. Last year, COVID caused multiple school closures and learning interruptions. Despite all of the challenges stemming from the pandemic, we made it through and still made significant learning gains!
However, we are going into our third year of school that has been impacted by COVID, and we are seeing gaps in reading skills. We have an urgent need to focus in on foundational literacy skills so that our youngest learners develop a skill that is essential for their success not only in their educational career, but in life.
Because of this I have applied to the Special Education Leaders Fellowship in New Orleans. I will be participating in the Foundations of Literacy Cohort, which specializes in addressing COVID learning loss in reading. This is a year-long fellowship that provides teachers with regular coaching, trainings, and resources to improve foundational literacy instruction. My school is unable to cover the program cost, and so I am independently trying to raise $2500 to work towards developing myself as a reading teacher. Your donation would help me to provide effective reading instruction to my first grade students and therefore help my students reach their reading goals.
