My cat isn’t “just a pet.” She’s my baby, my shadow, my tiny roommate, and my furry best friend. She’s been by my side for 15 years and until very recently she was a happy, cuddly, cheeky little monkey who brought joy to anyone that saw her little moustache or was invited to a belly rub.

While I was away for Christmas, my cat sitter noticed she was walking funny and did the right thing by taking her to the vet. At first, everyone thought it was just arthritis because of her age. She was sent home with medication and we all hoped she’d bounce back.

Instead, she got worse.

I came home early because something felt wrong. When I saw her, she wasn’t herself at all- she was lethargic, uncomfortable, and had stopped eating and drinking. I brought her straight back to the vet the very next morning, and they agreed something wasn’t right. She was sent to an animal hospital where she’s now being cared for.

After more tests, they found that her spine has narrowed and a disc is likely being compressed- which explains her leg issue. But then came the part I never saw coming… they also accidentally discovered lung cancer.

Hearing those words has devastated me.

Right now, she isn’t showing symptoms from the cancer, and before all of this she was genuinely happy and healthy. I know she’s 15, but she still has spark, personality, and love to give — and I’m not ready to give up on her while she still has quality of life.

I do have pet insurance (because I’m a good cat mom), but it only covers part of what this is going to cost. Between hospitalisation, imaging, medications, and ongoing care, the bills are stacking up fast and I’m doing everything I can, but I can’t do it alone. I never thought I would be in such a situation asking anyone for money. But I can't give up on her. She's not ready to go yet. And I can't let her suffer.
