Help me help MASIC
Back in 2020 I gave birth to my son Adam, an experience which has since shaped my entire physical and mental existence since.
Experiencing birth trauma was a defining moment in my life- for years I've tried to navigate how to move forward positively and process this physical and mental change.
I found solace in a myriad of resources all of which I located through deep and often never ending research realising that there really wasn't in place a support structure within our healthcare system.
I came across MASIC through Helen Ledwick's fantastic 'Why Mums Don't Jump' podcast and loved how they work to fill the gaps so often created postpartum- with knowledge, care, guidance and support.
Leading on from this I'm taking a massive jump of my own and participating in a tandem skydive with the North London Skydiving Centre on Saturday 5th April.
Thus, it would be absolutely ace if you could support me to support MASIC - a worthy and needed charity and resource. More about MASIC below:
The MASIC Foundation is the only multi-disciplinary UK charity to support women who have suffered perineal injuries during childbirth known as OASI (Obstetric Anal Sphincter Injury) or 3rd and 4th degree tears.
The average incidence of OASI in the UK is 3.1%, with an incidence rate of 4.5% in first births. This figure increases to 6.9% with an assisted (instrumental) birth.
Approximately 1 in 20 first-time mums are affected by this injury.
