Help me help "Cat" get a car.

Help me help Cat.

I’m looking for a bit of a Hail Mary here for someone most of us know…

“Cat” works as a bagger full time at HEB. She has been there for 13 years. Which is why I am sure just about anyone who has shopped at HEB for a while knows who she is.

Cat is 60ish heavy set and walks with a limp. She generally wears her blondish gray hair cut short. If you have talked with her, you might know she loves dogs, recues them and has a small herd of canines that she cares for.

“Cat” NEEDS a car.

Some people want things, I am telling you she needs a car.

A couple of days ago, she showed up at my job site. This was not the first time…Cat was hoping for a ride to work. To get to me, Cat, who has trouble walking had to walk two and a half miles up hill. I am guessing it took her most of an hour and a half…and when she stopped at my place, she was fully prepared to continue walking for as long as she had to until some stranger on Hwy 281 stopped to ask if she needed a ride. She tells me someone usually does stop. I am guessing the HEB shirt helps…

The last time I took Cat to work, I just happened to be there an hour earlier than usual…and I thanked God for giving me the desire to leave early so I could be there when she showed up. God must love “Cat” quite a bit to arrange for me to have insomnia.

I talked to Cat about getting a car last time I took her to work. She has a license and can afford the insurance. She just cannot afford a car.

The perfect vehicle would be one that is very reliable, gets good gas mileage, is mechanically sound, with a newer battery and good rubber. Anything less than a reliable car would not be a gift…but rather a burden because “Cat” could not afford to fix it if it broke down.

The perfect vehicle for “Cat” probably does not have much in the line of book value, “But darn it has been such a good car you would really like to see it go to someone who needs it…”

That’s it. Surely someone has a car they can give this hard-working woman.

In this day and age when so many young able-bodied people are not working by choice, you have to respect a 60 year-old disabled woman who is willing to walk for hours just to get to her job so she can support herself.

Help me help Cat. Do you have a good car you would be willing to give her? Can you donate to help buy a good used car or to pay for the title and registration on a donated car?
