An Ethical Journey with Impact

Hi My name is Archie Magee, I am a Year 9 Student from The Academy at Shotton Hall. I am looking to fundraise 50% of the initial cost for a 4 week trip to Cambodia with Camps Internationals where I will help people, the community and the environment.

Camps International projects are supported by the charity Camps Foundation.

This trip will include the opportunity to help small villages in their everyday life and experience the community and culture.

As I grew up in a small pit village, I am very grateful for this opportunity to share my knowledge and experiences with Cambodian people and children.

I’ll be teaching basic English in schools and helping improve the lives of rural communities through vital project work such as : building wells for clean drinking water, irrigation of crops for essential food, indoor kitchens in schools to support hot food during rainy season and toilets.

I believe these projects have a real impact as Cambodia remains one of the poorest countries in the world and in Ta Lek they do not have any mains supply water, which leads to sanitation being poor and risk of disease high.

I will also be helping the environment by planting trees and improving sustainability.

I have been given an amazing opportunity to experience this local culture and lifestyles as well as seeing the impact we can have in this country.

I will also be given the opportunity to explore local landmarks such as Angkor Wat and to achieve PADI open water scuba diving qualification. I will carry this experience with me for the rest of my life and leave lasting change for the future.

This trip is not just for me but for the people in Cambodia too.
