My name is Alexandra Drouhet Henderson, and for the past 13 years—

beginning at the end of high school—I have been in and out of remission with Ulcerative Colitis.

Earlier this year I was accepted into an Artistic Residency Program. I have been recording my first album, finishing several scripts and networking. I have been an artist, writer and performer my entire life and have struggled to have a flourishing career and education because of this. Some of the things I have been able to do such as singing and songwriting, theater, film, etc. had to stop each time due to Ulcerative Colitis.

Ulcerative Colitis is a disease that affects the colon, creating inflammation and ulcers in the lining of the large intestine. This causes severe joint pain, issues with eating (pretty much anything), extreme weight loss, intense fatigue, and more.

Right now, I’m working on regaining access to life-saving medication and insurance, and I’m also looking into the SHIELD Program—an alternative healing approach that could help put me

in remission once and for all.

The SHIELD Program is a multi-dimensional approach that helps individuals cultivate a healing response to Crohn’s and Colitis by personalizing six key pillars of health to fit their unique needs.

This does not mean I will avoid my doctors, or medications -

but I need a better solution that is sustainable and holistic.

I do not want to struggle anymore, lose weight, avoid foods everywhere I go, deal with joint pain, abdominal pain and essentially have pain anytime I use the bathroom. I need to be able to go out without worrying I will faint, get hurt or have no ability to live my life as a human being.

Even more than that- to have the ability to express myself through the arts, work hard and build a beautiful career that I can be proud of.

I no longer will allow myself to live like a prisoner in my own body.
