My daughter, Berit, was admitted to the ICU 5 days ago because her liver started failing. Her case challenged doctors and it's still unclear how this all started. She stayed in the ICU at Boston medical center for 4 days because her blood wasn't able to clot due to the liver dysfunction. During this time, we thought the only treatment was going to be a liver transplant. By some miracle her liver is starting to regenerat. Although most is damaged, it will return to normal function after a long and difficult recovery. Today she was transferred to an inpatient floor and we are working towards taking her home as soon as we can. Due to the nature of the injury and the long hospital stay, insurance won't cover a lot of the expenses and this would be financially crippling to our family.
