Hello, my name is Ali Vela, I am 21 years old, and I live in Cancun, Q. Roo with my parents and two sisters. I am currently studying psychology, and I am a coach for two flag football teams in the micro category. I have been playing this sport, which I love and am passionate about, for almost 11 years.

Almost two years ago, I had an accident during a game that caused an injury to my right knee, which required surgery for the anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus. My recovery was long and painful, but I knew it would be worth it because I didn’t want to stop playing. After my recovery, I began training with the necessary precautions, and eventually, I was able to return to the field. The joy and excitement of being able to play again after such a long time filled me with hope.

But a few weeks ago, I injured my left knee during a training session. When the doctors diagnosed me, it wasn’t so much the physical pain I felt, but the emotional pain of knowing that I would have to stop playing the sport I love again. The thought of going through what I experienced almost a year ago terrified me. This sport has taught me many lessons and has been with me throughout my life, and I am not willing to leave it behind. That is why I remain hopeful that I can count on your support to afford my second ACL surgery. It would mean the world to me to have your help, and I sincerely appreciate the time you took to read my story.

Hola, me llamo María Ali Vela Reyes, tengo 21 años, vivo en Cancún Q. Roo. con mis papás y mis dos hermanas y actualmente estoy estudiando la carrera de psicología, soy coach de tocho de dos equipos en la categoría micro y llevo casi 11 años jugando este deporte que amo y me apasiona tanto.

Hace casi dos años tuve un accidente jugando en un partido, lo que me provocó una lesión en la rodilla derecha, por lo que me tuvieron que operar el ligamento cruzado anterior y los meniscos, mi recuperación fue larga y dolorosa pero sabía que valdría la pena, pues no quería dejar de jugar; después de mi recuperación empecé a entrenar con las debidas precauciones hasta que por fin pude volver a pisar un campo, saber que podría volver a jugar después de mucho tiempo me llenó de alegría e ilusión; hasta que hace unas semanas me volví a lesionar, esta vez fue la rodilla izquierda en un entrenamiento; a la hora de diagnosticarme los doctores, fue más el dolor que sentí porque sabía que iba a tener que volver a dejar de jugar el deporte que amo que el dolor físico que tenía, el simple hecho de tener que pasar por lo mismo que pasé hace casi un año me aterraba, pues este deporte me ha enseñado demasiadas lecciones y aprendizajes, me ha acompañado a lo largo de mi vida y no pienso dejarlo, es por eso que tengo la esperanza de contar con su apoyo para poder pagar mi segunda operación de LCA, significaría muchísimo para mí poder contar con ustedes y agradezco de todo corazón el tiempo que se tomaron al leer mi historia.
