Less than a week from today, legendary Barnstormer, Walt Pierce is travelling to Las Vegas for 2018 ICAS (Annual Airshow Convention) to be inducted into the Hall of Fame! ICAS Foundation Air Show Hall of Fame!
Walt began flying Airshows in 1963. His Super Stearman Ol' Smokey is an icon among retired Airshow airplanes.
In 2011, I took on a lifetime role of Airshow Moral Support that has blessed me with very unique Airshow experiences and connections. My life purpose became "to make a difference for good in Aviation, especially Airshows".
I met Walt in 2012 and visited him a few times a year at his hangar, eating up his stories and his abundance of Airshow knowledge! With Randy's and Tim's help especially we kept a watchful eye on him.
In due time came his induction this year. Up until now, with no role available to me for the convention to make it financially justifiable, I surrendered my hope of attending his induction.
Today I talked to a mutual friend who would be dropping him off at the airport who offered me the honor and responsibility instead, which I eagerly accepted! The reality of the "minor" role excited my hope that perhaps I could follow through with the escort via Southwest Airlines and assist his family once we arrive at the convention, then return with him all the way back home to Southern Florida via Orlando. I need to purchase this travel ASAP to ensure the same flight as Walt!
At this time, for me to make the trip out-of-pocket is impossible, but for those of you who know me, know I love generating and sharing epic WIN-WIN experiences that can be accomplished by small means from many friends.
