Help me grow my Small Woman Owned Business

Last week I had to say a final goodbye to my commercial Singer sewing machine. While stitching for my last theatrical show she stopped working. After taking her in to be serviced I was devastated to learn she could not be repaired.

My in home business, Clothes Were The Days, has been growing rapidly over this last year. I had made plans to purchase a Juki Industrial machine and a backup serger in the new year. Sadly, this greatly speeds up my timeline. This also means I need to replace my portable machine and quickly change up the storage and layout in my sewing room to make space for this machine upgrade. These were changes I had hoped to make over the next several months, not within the coming weeks.

These funds will go towards:

  • An Industrial Straight Stitch Sewing Machine. With this machine I will be able to meet clients needs, fill custom orders, complete alterations, and construct readymade wear quicker. It will help increase productivity for my business, allowing me to stay competitive while making a living wage.
  • Replacing my portable commercial machine. This machine will have additional needed functions such as a zig zag, buttonhole, stretch stitch, and more that I use on my garments. This machine will also travel with me with to theaters when costuming productions.
  • Necessary storage changes within my sewing room that will allow me to rearrange the layout to fit the new industrial machine and allow space for and optimize productivity.
  • A Domestic Juki Serger. This machine will work side by side with my current domestic surger and act as a backup when my other machine needs servicing.

By supporting my Go Fund Me you will not only be supporting a woman owned small business, but so much more. As a designer, my readymade wear is often vintage inspired, frequently using vintage or upcycled items. Repurposing or bringing new life to a garment helps to reduce the effects of fast fashion. In addition, I make it a point to source materials locally in the greater Baltimore area, helping to boost the local small business economy.

More importantly, my mission is to help others feel beautiful as themselves in their own skin. I make it a point to offer a safe space for all of my clients, especially those in underrepresented and LGBTQIA+ communities. I feel that everyone should be able to feel comfortable with expressing their true self. Properly fit clothing allows for that expression and validation for who they are as a person.

In donating to my Go Fund Me you will help me continue following my dream of growing my business, Clothes Were The Days. I officially opened my in home business in 2019. I love what I do. I am at my happiest when I am designing and creating. Any level of support, even in sharing this Go Fund Me, will help me continue to peruse my passion.
