Hello friends, if you don't know my story, hang on and I'll tell you what's going on in my life.
My name is Laura Kaylor, I am 35 years old and a mom to an amazing teenage daughter. I began vomiting non stop the second week of March, 2021. I thought I had a stomach bug, so I just used my sick time at work, I was out sick a week before I went to the urgent care for treatment, they in turn sent me to my primary care Dr for a gallbladder attack. Dr Yost sent me for all the tests and they determined that I had a bad gallbladder. I had my gallbladder removed on April 19th, 2021. 36 hours later I had an emergency hernia repair surgery due to the development of a hernia where they had removed my gallbladder. The only improvements I have from these surgeries are the absence of extreme gallbladder pain.
Fast forward to now (7.20.22), it's been 498 days since I started vomiting, its every day all day multiple times a day. Anywhere from 1 to 37 times a day. This illness has cost me my job, made my kids tardy or absent from school, it has robbed me of over 60% of the hair on my body, I am unable to control my body temp, I wake up soaked in sweat every single night and have to change clothes and linens. I have the most severe abdominal (abd) pain, I would rate it at a pain scale of 100 anytime it hits me, I feel like I'm being gutshot with turkey shot, it drops me to the floor instantly. I was 230lbs on the day of my gallbladder surgery last year when all this started, I'm currently weighing in at 175. I'm so weak, I have to have someone at home to be able to shower, without fear of passing out and drowning. Basically, think of the worst stomach flu you've ever had, that's my life EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.
I've been diagnosed with refractory celiac disease, but it still doesn't explain the N/V. All my Dr's are at a loss, so I was referred to the Cleveland clinic in Ohio. I was able to go and be seen by Dr Alberto Rubio-Tapia. He is the leading expert in the WORLD for celiacs disease. They are planning on installing a TPN line, that will bypass my stomach, and give my body the nutrients that it won't allow me to keep down. That cannot be done until after I've had two more diagnostic tests to "stage" my refractory celiacs disease and to see if my intestines will be able to tolerate the TPN line, and the nutrients they will me giving me. Those tests are currently scheduled for the middle of September, but I'm on a waiting list as well. I have an incredibly strict diet that is super expensive to shop for. My restrictions include: no gluten, no soy/soy products, no whey, no carbonation, no artificial colors, no artificial sweeteners, no spices other than salt and butter and dairy is allowed as tolerated.
I'm in desperate need of help to raise the money to be able to travel there for treatment, and to help with paying for meds. My insurance has stopped paying for a few of my most expensive medications, so im having to pay out of pocket for meds to make me feel like a basically functional human. Anything at all will help tremendously. I'm unable to work because of this illness, and Jacob is working two jobs just to keep our basic bills paid.
Thank you for all your love and support through this, please continue to keep me in your thoughts and prayers, send all the good vibes to me!
