Help me go to NYU Tisch this summer!

Hi! I'm Teagan Burgess and I need your help! I'm 16 years old, living in Los Angeles with my amazing parents and 3 adorable dogs, and I'm a junior in high school. Since childhood, I've had a passion for storytelling, exploring it through various mediums like poetry, short stories, drawing, and eventually working my way up to filmmaking. Since then, my creative flow hasn’t stopped. My love for storytelling and filmmaking continues to grow, allowing me to pour my heart, soul, and imagination into my work. 2 of my short films have been nominated and have won multiple student film festivals! I was very proud that my work was recognized.

Discovering NYU's Tisch Summer High School Residential Programs, particularly their Filmmakers Workshop, was exhilarating! As a junior looking at college choices, NYU is a dream school for me due to its iconic film program. The summer workshop promises immersive learning, state of the art equipment, and collaboration with other young filmmakers while living on campus. Students are also given 4 college credits at the end of the program!

When I received acceptance to the program, I was overjoyed! I couldn’t believe that out of 800+ applicants, I was one of the 28 applicants chosen to attend! However, the lack of a scholarship presents a financial challenge. My parents aren’t in the position financially to cover the cost of the program; they were able to secure my deposit, but they can’t help beyond that. So this is where I’m reaching out to you!

Friends, family, anyone can support. This is an immeasurable experience, and I don’t want to pass it up. I will gain skills to help me be the best filmmaker I can be, create short films to demonstrate those skills and to use in my college applications, along with providing a glance at what I have to look forward to for college. This opportunity means a lot to me, especially as a young woman wanting to go into this industry. I appreciate all of your support, no action is too small!

Program Cost: $10,711 (deposit of $1,500 paid)

Breakdown of costs:

Tuition for 4 units (credits): $7,376

Program Fee (activities facilitated by Residential Life & Housing): $200

Film Narrative Lab and Insurance Fee: $663

Housing for 4 weeks: $1,704

10 meals a week for 4 weeks: $768
