Help Me Go See My Recovering Mama

Hi, I’m Isaac. Most of you may know me as Izzy but that’s neither here nor there. I have been going through a particularly hard time in my life as my mother has been recovering from Covid Pneumonia for the past 7 months. There was a point where I seriously thought we were going to lose her, especially when she was in a coma for two months and on the ventilator. Things have begun to turn the corner as mama has been cleared by her doctors to begin rehabilitation as well as home care. All of this is AMAZING news considering the fatality rate for those that reach my mother’s stage (stage 5) of Covid is nearly 100 percent. So I am elated that she is alive and surrounded by family that will help her get back to her best self.

I am starting this fundraiser because I live in Washington, DC and have exhausted all of my savings from traveling to see mama six hours away in North Carolina. When she first got sick I would drive down to see her and make sure to get my car checked up before I go. Then she got moved to a hospital that is two hrs away from where my family lives in NC. So that led to having to drive (no bus stops on the route). It’s about $80 or so in gas and another $100 in car maintenance (oil changes, tires, thermostat, etc.). I have now done this around 8 times since August of last year. Not to mention staying in hotels and running into even more surprise car repairs. Smh it’s just been extremely hard to say the least. While all of this happen I moved and my rent increased by $1,000. I had roommates before so it kept the cost low but my landlords sold the house and I found the best spot I could with everything going on.

I feel like I’m speaking into the void honestly. I don’t know how to even ask for help or if I even deserve it. But anything you can give would be appreciated. I will be taking bus rides and car trips down for the foreseeable future but only if I have the funds to do it. I thank you so much for even considering.
