Meet Maya. She’s a young street dog in Egypt who lives alone, which is unusual as most stray dogs here live in packs. She may have been separated from her family, possibly moved by children, which is sadly common with puppies or her mother and siblings were killed or removed.
When I found her, masking tape was wrapped tightly around her leg, risking injury and amputation. A vet safely removed it, treated her for fleas and ticks, and started her vaccinations.
At just 3–4 months old, she’s gentle, affectionate, and eager for connection. But the streets of Egypt are dangerous for stray dogs—puppies are often mishandled, packs can be aggressive to outsiders, and poisoning or abuse is a constant risk. A calm, friendly dog like her is especially vulnerable.
We’re working to get her to the UK, where she can finally have the home she deserves.
