This is probably one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to write, and I’m honestly embarrassed to even be asking for help but when it comes to Snoopy, I need to put my pride aside and at least try.
Around 18 months ago, Snoopy ruptured the CCL/ACL in his first back leg.
At the time, alongside our vet’s recommendations we chose to manage the injury conservatively and put everything into his recovery.
He actually made amazing progress & he regained his mobility, built his strength back up and got to the point where he was enjoying his life again.
Unfortunately, we always knew there was a significant chance the other leg would eventually go from compensating and carrying the extra weight.
Now that day has sadly come.
Snoopy has ruptured the CCL/ACL in his other back leg and because his previously injured leg isn’t strong enough to take all of his weight, he is now struggling significantly with his mobility.
This time, conservative management isn’t realistically going to be enough; because of his size - his case also isn’t straightforward.
He needs an experienced specialist who is confident operating on large breed dogs and we are looking at bilateral TPLO surgery to properly support him through this recovery and give him the best chance of getting back on his feet.
I’ve been quoted approximately $6,500 - 8,000 per leg, plus specialist consultations, around $1,300 for X-rays, medication and rehabilitation afterwards.
I don’t expect others to cover everything… I’m hoping I can pull together the remainder myself and cover his ongoing expenses but right now, this simply isn’t an amount of money I can find upfront.
With a mortgage, rent and everyday living expenses already stretching things, finding an extra $18,000+ upfront just for his surgeries, specialist care, rehab and medication just isn’t something I can manage on my own.
Those who know Snoopy and especially those privileged enough to be one of the people he chooses to love … know just how much this boy means to me.
He is my soul dog.
Snoopy is also fear aggressive at the vets due to previous trauma at the vet, which makes this entire process more complicated.
Part of my brain tells me that putting him through specialist appointments, sedation, surgeries and recovery may be too much and that letting him go peacefully would be kinder.
But my heart tells me he deserves the chance first.
If I can find the right specialist who is willing to work with Snoopy rather than against him, I genuinely believe he will do everything to fight his way through this - he’s a tough boy.
Over the years I’ve been fortunate enough to help foster and care for so many dogs including dogs facing euthanasia and I’ve happily put my own time, money and heart into giving them another chance.
I’ve never done that expecting anything in return but now for the first time, I’m sadly asking for a little help for my own boy.
The alternative if I can’t make treatment possible is something I don’t even want to contemplate and I couldn’t live with myself if I made that decision without at least putting this out there and trying first.
So this is my last shout for my boy
I know times are tough for everyone and I absolutely don’t expect anyone to put themselves out.
Even the cost of your morning coffee would mean more than you know and if donating isn’t possible, simply sharing Snoopy’s fundraiser could make just as much of a difference.
Every dollar, every share and every bit of support gives my boy a little more of a chance.
Thank you for helping me fight for Snoop.
