For the past four years, I have had the privilege of serving as an Advisor to a group of 12 young men at Aspire Cal Prep Richmond. I first met them as ninth graders, full of potential and curiosity, and I have watched them grow into strong, thoughtful, and resilient young adults. Now, as they prepare to graduate and step into the next chapter of their lives, I want to give them a send-off they will always remember—an overnight trip to Santa Cruz.

At our school, Advisory is more than just a class; it’s a tight-knit community where students develop social-emotional skills, navigate the challenges of high school, and build relationships that last a lifetime. Over the years, we have supported each other through struggles, celebrated victories, and grown together in ways that extend far beyond academics.

This trip is more than just a getaway—it’s a chance to honor the hard work, dedication, and perseverance these students have shown throughout high school. It’s a time to reflect, bond, and celebrate their journey before they take their next steps into adulthood. From a bonfire on the beach to a day at the Santa Cruz Boardwalk, this trip will create lasting memories that will carry them forward with joy and confidence.
