If you know me, you know how much Kali means to me. She isn’t “just a dog”, she has been my baby, my family, and one of the most constant sources of love in my life for the past 10 years. I rescued Kali from the Miami-Dade Animal Shelter in 2016 when Pitbulls were still banned in a lot of areas of Miami. Kali has made people who hate dogs love Pitbulls and has broken every stereotype society tries to label. Kali pours into me so I can put into everyone around me. Recently, we received the news every dog parent fears: Kali has a bone tumor and has been diagnosed with bone cancer. Kali was perfectly healthy hiking, swimming, going on long walks weeks ago, then all of a sudden within weeks she lost her ability to walk pain free. The cancer is very aggressive and every second matters. She now needs an urgent amputation followed by chemotherapy to give her the best chance at extending her life and, most importantly, giving her more good, happy, pain-free time. Her treatment is expected to cost at least $7,000–$7,500, and I’m trying to raise the funds as quickly as possible so finances don’t stand between her and the care she needs. I know that amount sounds overwhelming, but I realized something that gave me hope: if even half of my Instagram community donated just $3, we could raise more than $7,300.
