I'm a full-time college student and a trans man, and in December, I'm scheduled to have top surgery—a step I've been waiting for my whole life. I work part-time at a coffee shop, which is the only job I could get in my area as a student. I do my best to save, but most of my income goes toward basic expenses like gas just to get to work and school. I don't have insurance, so I've been putting every extra dollar aside for this surgery.

This surgery is essential for my well-being. I'm already on testosterone, which has helped me a lot, but top surgery would mean I could finally stop binding my chest every day. Binding makes it hard to breathe and adds to my anxiety, and my anxiety medication doesn't help fully for that reason. Being able to have this surgery would let me live more freely and comfortably, without the constant discomfort and worry.
