My name is Iain Botting and I am a deaf athletic hammer thrower that has been selected to compete for the Deaf Olympics in Japan! I’ve been passionate about sports for as long as I can remember. As a deaf athlete, I’ve faced countless challenges, from the lack of access to specialized training to feeling disconnected from mainstream sports communities. But one thing has never wavered, my dream of competing at the Deaf Olympics.
Growing up, Athletics sport were my escape. It wasn’t just about the competition, it was about finding my place, feeling seen, and proving that deaf athletes have the same drive and potential as anyone else. Over the years, I’ve trained tirelessly, faced challenges head-on both physically and mentally and grown stronger in my resolve to one day represent my community and country at the Deaf Olympics.
But dreams don’t come true on their own. The road to the Deaf Olympics is long, and the journey requires more than just skill and determination, it requires funding, this is something deaf athletes don't get. The costs involved are travels and accommodation for the Deaf Olympics, unfortunately it does mean a significant fund and that’s why I’m reaching out to you. With your support, I can cover these essential expenses and take the next step toward making my dream a reality.
The Deaf Olympics are not just a competition; they’re a celebration of resilience, talent, and unity. Competing would be an opportunity to showcase the strength of the deaf community and inspire others who face challenges to pursue their dreams, no matter the odds.
If you believe in my journey, I would be so grateful for any support you can offer. Whether it’s through a donation, sharing my story, or even offering sponsorship, every bit of help brings me one step closer to achieving my goal!
Thank you for believing in me and for supporting deaf athletes everywhere. Together, we can make this dream happen!
