Spinal surgery girl needs help for scout jamboree

Hi, my name is Ava, and I am a scout recovering from an 8-hour life-saving spinal operation. I had severe scoliosis (75º+ curvature of the spine), which would have crushed my organs if not corrected, so my surgeon put 19 bolts and two titanium rods into my spine. Despite this, I have been selected to go to the 25th World Scout Jamboree held in South Korea in 2023. When I first heard of the trip, I didn't think I would be able to go due to my condition. However, the leadership team in charge of the event has helped me realise that I will be able to join my friends on the adventure with the proper support. We are tasked with raising the money ourselves as part of the experience and some of the money I raise will be going to scouts in less fortunate areas so that no one is left behind. The World Scout Jamboree is a celebration of scouting held once every four years and is a gathering of over 40,000 scouts worldwide. It is a once in a lifetime opportunity to experience completely different cultures and make lifelong friends from across the globe. I have been in scouting for the past five years, and I am now an Explorer Scout. Scouting has honestly changed my life, and it has helped me learn new skills, face my fears and improve my confidence. I am now a young leader in my local Beaver group, and I hope that I will be able to encourage them as much as my leaders helped me. It is a great honour to be selected even though I am not yet fully recovered the support from the scouting community has been unwavering.  I know these covid times are difficult for all of us, so any contribution however small will be most welcome. Thank you for taking the time to read this, and stay safe.
