Help me get to RISD pre-college!

Hi, my name is Graycie Sandoval and I am a 16 year old Junior at El Segundo High School who is incredibly passionate about art. Ever since I can remember, I have loved every aspect of art… whether it was drawing, painting, playing with play-doh and clay, or simply creating “art” with random items I could find around the house. During my time in high school, I’ve taken every art class available to further my craft, including Art 2, Ceramics, and I am currently enrolled in AP Art. Art has always been my sweet-escape, and I inspire to one day purse a career that is centered around my life’s greatest passion.

In November of 2023, l applied to Rhode Island School of Design’s (RISD) Pre-College Summer Art Program that is available to high school Juniors and Seniors worldwide. On the morning of March 7, 2024 I found out I was accepted in to the program! This is an intensive five-week program offering a college-level curriculum to aspiring art students like myself. Throughout this program, I will be experiencing life as a RISD undergrad student with day-long studio classes, projects, and critiques. By the end of this program, I will have challenged myself like never before, strengthened my art portfolio, and gained invaluable experience that will ultimately make me a better artist.

Although I am beyond excited for this opportunity, I unfortunately was not granted a scholarship in which I applied for. I am now determined to raise enough money to help cover tuition, travel fees to and from Rhode Island, housing, and various art supplies necessary for the program. I am currently working part-time after school and saving as much as possible for this program, but I will not be able to cover the entire cost, on my own by the time tuition is due on April 30th, 2024.
