My name is mason, and I am a Year 8 Student at The homesdale school.

My school has given me the amazing opportunity to go on a Camps International expedition to Kenya in July 2027.

This incredible opportunity isn't just about exploration, it s a chance to make a real difference in the lives of local communities and wildlife in Kenya. I will be getting stuck in, and offering vital support to those who need it most and helping to preserve the rich wildlife.

During the 4-week expedition I will be involved in:

• Community project, where we will be making a measurable impact in the local area, such as building classrooms, constructing and refurbishing community buildings and installing water storage systems. As well as taking in the local culture, including Swahili, having cooking lessons from the local women, teaching the local children English and hopefully lots of games of football!

• Environmental project, where we will get our hands dirty. This could include working alongside locals tree planting

• Wildlife conservation, where we will work with local people to help to make elephant deterrent fences. These fences are the best way to deter elephants from fam land, without causing them any harm. We will also participate in an educational environmental workshop, making paper out of elephant dung to bring a source of income to the local community.

• Trek, a 5 day trek through stunning landscapes, trekking through open savannahs and equatorial rainforests before reach Point Lenana on Mount Kenya – the second highest mountain in Africa.

• Safari adventure, 1 day at Tsavo East National Park, where I will hopefully get to spot a variety of wildlife including elephants, lions, giraffes to name but a few.

The communities I will be working with will have little income other than the subsistence farming, with drought, infertile soils and crop sabotage from wildlife, it is no wonder there often isn't enough food to go around.

I need to fund raise £4,500 to enable me to take part in the expedition.

Previously, with the help of students like me, Camp International have; positively impacted the lives of over 120,000 people, provided homes for more than 60 of the poorest families, helped to protect 250,000 hectares of wilderness in 7 of the world's biodiverse hotspots, vaccinated more than 34,000 livestock and established at least 1.1 million extra tress.
