Who this will help

For those who do not know me, I am Dakarai Akil. I am an LA based collage artist from Cleveland, OH.

Why I'm fundraising

I am blessed to have an opportunity to rejoin my community of artists with Micro Galleries February 10-27 in Chiang Mai, Thailand for my second residency program with the collective. Thailand faces challenges with controlled fires and pollution leaving a devastating impact on the climate and the people who live there. The mission of our residency in Chiang Mai is to gather information about the climate change issues in the area from climate change activists, scientists and community leaders who are educated on these matters; work with the community to host art exhibits, workshops and public art installations within the community that focuses on creative solutions to become more sustainable.

The impact of your support

The funds you generously donate to this cause will help cover flights, lodging, a dog sitter for the month because my pup Obi needs to be covered while I'm away, transportation when in Chiang Mai and art supplies. The impact of this project will continue to bring awareness to communities about becoming more sustainable but also giving a voice to the community to share their experiences and continue to grow our global collective of artists. Your support means so much to me because being able to participate in this program is what I feel is part of my purpose as an artist. To have the ability to share my work with the world and leave a lasting impact on a macro and micro scale. The macro scale being my connection to people way on the other side of the world who would otherwise have never met me and heard my story. The micro scale being my supporters here at home who know me and have been supporting since the beginning. Thank you in advance for any way you are able to support this cause.
