My name is Cameron, and three weeks ago, my life changed in ways I never saw coming.

What started as something small—just a bit of discomfort, a sense that something wasn’t quite right—quickly spiraled into something much more serious. Before I knew it, I was in hospital, surrounded by machines, questions, and uncertainty. Days blurred together. Tests, scans, waiting. Always waiting.

After what felt like an endless stretch of unknowns, I was given answers—ones that were both a relief and a new challenge to face. I was diagnosed with Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) and Lumbosacral Plexopathy. Conditions that, until now, I had never even heard of, but which are now a part of my daily reality.

FND affects how my brain communicates with my body. It can cause weakness, pain, and difficulty with movement—symptoms that are very real, even if they don’t always show up clearly on scans. Lumbosacral Plexopathy, on the other hand, impacts the network of nerves in my lower back and legs, making even simple things like walking or standing a challenge.

Three weeks in hospital gave me time to think—about everything I’ve taken for granted, about how quickly life can shift, and about how much I still want to fight for my independence and future.

Now, I’m facing a long road ahead. Recovery isn’t straightforward. It involves ongoing treatment, rehabilitation, and support to help me regain strength, mobility, and confidence in my own body again. Some days are harder than others. Progress can feel slow. But I’m determined to keep going.
