Shug and I have been on our dream vacation this week! A cruise (that we flew to) out of Miami visiting the Bahamas. We got on board on Monday; by Tuesday, he developed a slight dry cough and chest tightness. We are thinking allergies, maybe a mild cold.

Yesterday, he was struggling to keep his breath when trying to just walk a few feet. He woke up around 6 this morning really stressing and unable to breathe, so I called 911 on the ship. They immediately sent a wheelchair and took us to the medic center on the ship.

There, they took x-rays and ran tests. Diagnosis was not good; he has a collapsed lung on the right side. They aren’t sure how it happened. They laid out several scenarios for us (including one at a private hospital asking for $33,000 up front). Initially, we thought maybe we would just wait it out until we get back to Miami early tomorrow morning, but the doctors there got him into the local government hospital in Nassau.

I had to pack all our belongings (with the help of Carnival's amazing guest services... seriously y’all, this line has ALL of their stuff together). He just had a chest tube placed and will be in ICU here for a couple of days. I have canceled our flight home tomorrow and made a reservation for a hotel nearby (because I can’t stay at the hospital with him, which if you know me, you know that is killing me).
