Hi my name is Jessie Schmidt on August 20, 2020 my daughter and I we're in a bad car accident. When me and my daughter got in the car she buckled up like always. Unfortunately I did not have my seatbelt on. As I got on 422, my car flipped. It flipped several times and I flew through the window and hit a tree. I have no recollection of this incident or anything for that matter. My daughter says that I screamed before the car flipped, the thought of my daughter experiencing something so dramatic, alone deeply saddens me. Luckily, my daughter survived with only some abrasions from the seatbelt. When I hit the tree I broke my neck and was instantly paralyzed. My daughter who was seven at the time, had to crawl through the window to find my lifeless body. It hurts me that she had to go through this by her self. When she found my body she called her grandmother and saved my life. I'm so grateful that me and her both survived. For me it was a close call, they had told my family I wasn't going to make it. God was with me that day.I was flown to the hospital and woke up several days later and realized I was paralyzed.I was hooked up to a ventilator, I could not breathe on my own.I couldn't move my arms or legs and I couldn't speak. The first thing I thought of when I woke up was where is my daughter and if she's OK. Nothing that more than me then to find out my daughter was fine. After the accident, life was very difficult for me.I had to learn to breathe on my own.I couldn't drink or eat, I was given supplements through a tube in my stomach. I was sent to multiple facilities. One of the facilities were so horrible they neglected me and I got bedsores.I got a sore on my heels so bad I almost lost my foot. I was in extreme pain every day. For months I would scream for the nurses at night. I lost 30 pounds and looked horrible. By the grace of God and the love of my family I was sent to another facility. When I arrived to my new facility I was in such bad shape, I was septic. I had a fever and I was hallucinating. Berkshire center saved my life, along with my family who cared enough to put me in a better situation . I am better today and I am working hard to get home to my daughter. I no longer receive physical therapy and I haven't in three months. I have to do things on my own and with the help of my aids. My goal is to raise money so I can receive therapy. So I can receive all the help I can get, So I can achieve All things possible. I pushed myself because I want my daughter to know that her mother loves her so much that she would do anything to get home to her. Nothing could keep me from my daughter, not a car accident, not being paralyzed, nothing. All I ask is for you to help make it possible that I can reunite with my daughter and receive therapy. I need a equipment and vehicle with the ramp to transport me back-and-forth. Thank you. Forgive all the errors, for I have to use Voicecontrol. Thank you for your patience and reading my story. God bless. I also would like to raise seatbelt awareness so I can help others and hopefully save a life.
