My name is Mahmoud. I am 24 years old, and I kindly ask you to read my story.

I have never been poor, nor have I ever asked for financial help. But the situation we are living through in Gaza today is beyond anyone’s capacity, and I am left with no other choice.

I hold a degree in Law and Judicial Practice, specializing in International Humanitarian Law, from the University of Palestine. I graduated in 2021, and it has always been my dream to become a lawyer who defends the oppressed.

I lived a simple, peaceful life in my family’s home. I had my own room, my privacy, and the basic belongings that every human being deserves.

In September—just one month before the war began—I started preparing for my future. I had begun purchasing essential items for my new home, eager to start a stable and dignified life.

Then the war came… and destroyed everything.

Our family home was reduced to rubble. I lost all of my possessions. My apartment, which I never even spent a single night in, was completely destroyed. The law office where I worked was also bombed.

I became displaced. I spent months living in tents and out in the open. Today, I live in a bombed house that has been minimally repaired. It is at risk of collapsing at any moment, and I share it with three other families.

I also suffer from a knee injury and require ACL surgery—something currently unavailable in Gaza due to the collapse of the healthcare system.

I suffered a serious knee injury that completely changed my life.

I was diagnosed with a torn ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) and a meniscus tear. I underwent surgery, but unfortunately, it didn’t go well. The doctors later told me that a metal screw had been placed incorrectly in the bone, causing me severe, constant pain.

As a result, I now need another operation to remove the faulty screw. It has led to the formation of internal scar tissue and fibers inside my knee, which causes swelling and restricts my movement.

Despite all of this, I continue to live through displacement and hardship. I carry water, collect firewood, and do physically demanding work — all while standing and walking on an injured leg, in pain every single day.

I am in urgent need of medical care, a safe place to live, and a chance to start over.

أنا محمود، عمري 24 عاماً، وأتمنى منكم أن تقرأوا قصتي.

لم أكن يوماً فقيراً، ولم أطلب مساعدة مالية من أحد من قبل. ولكن ما نعيشه اليوم في غزة يفوق قدرة البشر، ولم يبقَ أمامي خيار آخر.

أنا خريج كلية القانون والممارسة القضائية، تخصص “القانون الدولي الإنساني”، من جامعة فلسطين. تخرجت عام 2021، وكان حلمي منذ الصغر أن أصبح محامياً أدافع عن المظلومين.

كنت أعيش حياة طبيعية وبسيطة، في منزل عائلتي، أمتلك غرفتي الخاصة وأشيائي التي تمثل أبسط حقوق الإنسان في هذا العالم.

في شهر سبتمبر، أي قبل الحرب بشهر واحد فقط، بدأت تجهيز مستلزمات أساسية لبناء منزلي المستقبلي. كنت متحمساً لبداية حياة كريمة ومستقرة.

لكن الحرب… جاءت فجأة ودمرت كل شيء.

منزل العائلة تدمر، وفقدت كل ممتلكاتي، وشقتي التي لم أنم فيها ليلة واحدة هُدمت بالكامل، وحتى المكتب الذي كنت أعمل فيه لم يعد موجوداً.

تحولت إلى نازح. عشت شهوراً في الخيام وفي العراء، والآن أعيش في منزل تعرض للقصف، وتم ترميمه بشكل بسيط، لكنه مهدد بالانهيار في أي لحظة. أشاركه مع ثلاث عائلات أخرى.

أنا بحاجة للسفر، والعلاج، وبداية جديدة في مكان آمن بعيداً عن الخطر.

أُصبتُ بإصابة خطيرة في ركبتي غيّرت حياتي بالكامل.

تبيّن أن عندي تمزق في الرباط الصليبي الأمامي وتمزق في الغضروف الهلالي.

خضعتُ لعملية جراحية، لكنها للأسف لم تسرِ كما يجب.

أخبرني الأطباء لاحقًا أن هناك دبوسًا طبيًا تم تركيبه بشكل خاطئ داخل العظم، وهو ما يسبب لي ألمًا شديدًا ومستمرًا.

بسبب هذا الخطأ، أحتاج الآن إلى عملية جراحية أخرى لإزالة الدبوس، الذي أدى إلى تكوّن ألياف وتورم داخلي في الركبة، ويؤثر على قدرتي على الحركة.

ورغم كل هذا، ما زلت أعيش في ظروف نزوح قاسية.

أحمل الماء، وأجمع الحطب، وأقوم بأعمال شاقة يوميًا — وأنا أتحمل الألم، وأشتغل برجل مصابة، ما بقدر أرتاح لحظة.

لي الحق في الحياة.
