Help me get E-Motion wheels for my wheelchair

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Frankie and I am an ambulatory wheelchair user. I have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and cannot stand or walk for very long so I have to use my wheelchair whenever I am out of the house. Every day I experience pain, fatigue and risk of dislocation in all my joints, this includes my shoulders and wrists which can make pushing my manual wheelchair very difficult.

Whilst my wheelchair helps reduce the pressure and symptoms on my lower limbs and has greatly improved my ability to be independent, allowed me to participate in my hobbies and experience many things that my disability would usually prevent, the strain of doing these things on my shoulders and wrists means that I have to limit how often I can experience this independence. For every day of independent mobility I lose two days to recovery, which is not sustainable if I want to experience a normal life.

E-motion wheels work similarly to an E-bike. Every push on the push rims translates to a motor which in turn adds some equivalent electrical assistance. This would more than halve the amount of strain I needed to put behind each push as well as allowing me easier movement on a variety of terrains.

Those who know me will know that as an able bodied person, I did a lot of acting, starting at the age of 5. Occasionally I would twist an ankle, get a swollen knee, have backache etc but my ambition to go to one of the top Drama schools in London to study Acting never waned. Then as this dream came ever closer, not long into my A levels studies and just as Lock Down began, my symptoms increased dramatically and in 2021 I was diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS). Despite this I carried on with my studies and gained good grades in my A levels whilst at the same time negotiating the world of medication, hospital appointments, physio and hydro-therapy, and learning to use a wheelchair - which may look easy (I thought that too!) but believe me it is not.

For the past 18 months I have become more and more reliant on a wheelchair to get around and learning to adapt to this new way of life has been a long and eye-opening journey.

It has been a rough road but now that I am adapting to life using a wheelchair I feel ready to chase my dream again and I am going to apply to drama schools this Autumn. E-motion wheels are manufactured in Germany by a specialist company and cost upwards of £5000 pound a pair but I feel these would really help me pursue this long held dream and give me back my independence as well as help me navigate the streets of London and the transport system, which for an able bodied person from rural Yorkshire would be daunting enough, let alone adding a wheelchair in to the mix!

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated, whether that be a donation towards these much needed wheels or sharing this gofundme! Thank you <3
