Hello. My name is Chaz, or if you're coming from online, you'll know me as ribbiwawa. I live, or lived, in the Pacific Palisades. One month ago, I lost my home in the Palisades fire. We were well insured, and received a significant sum of money to rebuild our house, as well as replace our personal possessions. The problem for me is the latter. By my calculations, I had about $6,720 worth of clothes, collectibles, appliances, books, and more in my house. I was only able to prove to the insurance company that I owned $4,230 worth of things; in response, I was given $2,500.
This is not a life threatening situation. I am not in any danger of being housed or making it to my next meal. I will be just fine. However, losing all of those things has proved to be a significant blow to my future plans, as I had many valuable collectibles I was planning to sell for a lease on an apartment, a car, or other essential things in my future. Not to mention my entire wardrobe and multiple electronics.
I ask, only if you can spare it, to help me restore some of what I have lost, so that I have at least some of the money I plan to spend on my future after graduation. It pains me to ask you all, some of you strangers, some of you my closest friends, to help me, but I do not know any recourse. I have heard rumblings of a new law being proposed by California that would require insurance companies to give disaster victims 100% of their lost items' value: in the case this is passed, I will refund any and all donations. Until then, this is all I have.
Thank you very much for reading to the end.
