Help Me Get Back on the Rugby Pitch – ACL Surgery Fundraiser
Donation protected
Hi everyone,
I’m reaching out for help with something that is a really important part of my life —getting back on my feet and back to playing the sport I love.
I recently suffered an ACL injury (the three letters that no rugby player wants to hear) in a BUCS game on 13th December, suddenly ending my rugby season. Having played for Cardiff University Women in the BUCS Super Rugby league for the last four years, this is also sadly my last year with the club as my PhD is coming to an end. I have also played outside of university in the WRU Championship with Clwb Rygbi Cymry Caerdydd (CRCC) for two years.
This injury has left me in constant intense pain, making even basic daily tasks difficult. Unfortunately, the NHS waiting time for ACL reconstruction is up to 2 years, meaning I could miss three full seasons including recovery, and I would also continue to be in this level of pain. As a dedicated athlete who spends most of their time on the rugby field or in the gym, that’s a heartbreaking possibility.
The alternative to this is private surgery, which I could undergo a lot sooner (<8 weeks), followed by a 10-month recovery period. However, the cost of private surgery is around £10,000, and as a PhD student, I simply can’t afford this on my own. Any funds raised will go directly toward the surgery and anything that aids my recovery so I can return to doing what I love as soon as possible.
Rugby has been a huge part of my life, and I’m determined to come back stronger. If you’re able to donate—even just a small amount—it would mean the world to me. If you can’t donate, I’d really appreciate it if you could share this page to help spread the word.
Thank you so much for your support! ❤️
Em
