As some of you may already be aware, my Neurologist and I have been discussing a brain surgery called Deep Brain Stimulation, which would mean that they would put electrodes in my brain that would take over my motor functions. This isn't just a simple surgery . The electrodes would have to be connected to a remote control that is implanted in my chest and for the rest of my life I would have to have a neurologist adjust the frequency of the electrodes . So much can go wrong . Obviously, I'm terrified.
Before I take this huge step that will impact me for the rest of my life, I would like to rule out any possible underlying conditions to make sure that I was not misdiagnosed, because some of my symptoms just don't "fit" with my current diagnosis.
There is a genetic test that would test for over 15,000 different genetic conditions, as well as connective tissue disorders, and autoimmune disorders. The reason I want to have this test done is to rule out any underlying issues that may be contributing to my condition.
For obvious reasons, I don't want to have unnecessary brain surgery that will require maintenance by neurologist for the rest of my life.
Unfortunately, the test is not covered by insurance and since I just started working after being on disability for 2 years and spending everything I had on getting to where I am today, I just can't afford it.
Everybody knows how hard I've worked to get better, and how far I've come, but the neurologist is really pushing this surgery, insisting that I won't get any better without it. I've had several 2nd opinions who agree that based on my current diagnosis, this surgery will fix my problem and let me go back to normal life.
I just have a gut feeling that my current diagnosis isn't correct, and I refuse to have this extremely invasive surgery until I'm certain that I don't have any other choice.
I really want to rule out everything in case there is something else that is causing my condition and may be treated with less invasive methods than brain surgery.
The test costs $530, and insurance will not cover it . If you could donate anything I would really appreciate it!
