Trying this again. I deleted the other one after 24 hours because it didn’t make anything and I felt even more embarrassed than I already did.
As most know by now, I live in my car, and have been since April of last year. Home has been this 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe from Facebook Market that I was forced to settle on last-minute during an incredibly desperate and traumatic time in my life. It was a total lemon, and thousands upon thousands of more dollars have been sunk into keeping it alive since then, but I can no longer justify investing any more money into it. Instead, I’d prefer to allocate anything I’m making towards a newer car, preferably one younger than 20 years old.
That has been my goal as of recently, but being on disability and only having Instacart and the occasional odd job for extra income has made saving very, very slow. Just the other day, I was forced to pay for the brake pads to be replaced just so I could keep using it to work. The truth is, I just really could use some help, the quicker the better considering I’m not confident this car will be drivable for much longer. As it stands, it is not safe to drive, but I don’t have any other options. I don’t have parents to ask for help, and being on disability with no credit disqualifies me from leasing one. When and if this car finally gives out, I will be totally stuck, so it’s somewhat urgent I am able to replace the thing before it dies. The threat of it dying before I’ve successfully raised an amount to do so keeps a dread and anxiety constantly looming over me.
So yeah, can I please ask for some help supplementing my own daily attempt at raising money for a new used car? Ideally, between $5,000-8,000 would get me something that would last me for a while without a ton of extra work, and I’m almost at $2,000 myself. I know there are a lotta very worthy gofundmes out there, but if you have the means I’m begging and humiliating myself here that you throw me even a couple of bucks, or share this page with those who can.
For fun, here’s a list of problems
with the car, ranging from dangerous to just annoying:
- Loud knocking, popping, cracking, and squealing when I drive, turn, and alternate—likely the struts, suspension, and several belts? It sounds like a horsedrawn carriage a lotta the time…
- No AC, which I’m surprised hasn’t resulted in my death by now—was told by a mechanic the entire thing needs replacing
- ABS/TCS OFF lights on, which probably has something to do with how sometimes I hydroplane on dry concrete when I brake—very scary
- Crack in front windshield that has slowly grown from one side to the other—curious what will happen when it completes its journey
- Passenger side window no longer goes down
- Back driver side door hasn’t been able to open since July of last year because a drunk woman hit it while it was cracked open
- Trunk door won’t stay up on its own
- Rooftop bars (the ones that come connected to the car itself) are breaking apart, and my cargo carrier is now being held on by only one side
- Sunroof window can’t open or close completely anymore
- Locks on doors are different from ignition starter, so I cannot unlock the car from the outside with the key I use to start the car—I can only do that using the key fob
- On hot days, the key fob can’t unlock the driver side door, so I have to do it manually from the other side
