Hi, my name is Maciej Burgess, and I’m a 15-year-old student at The Howard of Effingham School. I have been given a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to take part in Operation Wallacea 2026, an incredible environmental research expedition in Madagascar. Very few people get the chance to be involved in something like this, and I don’t want to miss out!

To help fund my place on this expedition, I will be taking on the Three Peaks Challenge, climbing the highest mountains in Scotland, England, and Wales—Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, and Snowdon—all within 24 hours. This will be an intense test of endurance, but it’s nothing compared to the impact this expedition will have on conservation efforts in Madagascar.

What is Operation Wallacea?

Operation Wallacea runs real-world conservation and research projects across the globe. In Madagascar, I will be working alongside scientists and conservationists to:

Protect endangered ecosystems by collecting data on biodiversity and deforestation.

Monitor unique species found only in Madagascar.

Support sustainable conservation initiatives that help local communities.

This is not a holiday—it’s an educational and environmental mission that will give me hands-on experience in field research, conservation work, and global sustainability efforts.
