I’m proud to join this effort to raise funds for the American Cancer Society as I celebrate being 5 years breast cancer–free.

Five years ago, my life changed in ways I never expected. I had recently resigned from my job to care for my mother, and just four months later, I discovered a lump in my breast. Before leaving my position, I never imagined how critical health insurance would become in my own life.

As a social worker for many years, I spent my career advocating for others. Suddenly, I found myself needing someone to advocate for me. By grace and support, I was able to meet the deadline to get health insurance at a time when I needed it most.

Having experienced the uncertainty, challenges, and emotional weight that can come with a cancer diagnosis, I understand how important support and access to care truly are. My hope is that through this fundraiser, our donations can help ease the burden for someone else facing a similar journey.
