Director's Statement
Wahala is a Nigerian slang term that means trouble.
Growing up in Nigeria, I was exposed to different types of women who embodied different characters and personalities. As a storyteller I have been passionate about telling stories that explore human flaws and desires through the female experience. Wahala For Everybody reflects the silent battles women face behind closed doors; the masks they wear, the truths they hide, and the power they hold. This story came from a place of curiosity. What happens when two women who should hate each other find themselves brought together into an entanglement by the same man’s lies?
The story plays with duality — wife vs. mistress, truth vs. perception, power vs. vulnerability and invites the audience to question every version of the truth they hear. There is no villain or hero here, only victims of a toxic system where women are forced to fight each other for a man who never deserved either of them. This story also explores the biased justice system that women face day-to-day in Nigeria. With this film, my goal is to share a little bit of my culture through grounded characters that the audience can connect with.
