Hi!
My name is Lizzie Roff and I am an incoming freshman in the biology pre-med program at SUNY Fredonia. I am fundraising in order to afford my medically necessary housing for the school year.
In December 2024, I was diagnosed with Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome, a chronic autonomic nervous system disorder that causes me severe symptoms including frequent fainting and extreme fatigue. Throughout my enrollment to Fredonia, I have been informed that I would have to pay an extra $1,500 for the cost of a single room even if it is a medical accommodation. I am the sole person funding my education, and even with generous federal financial aid, I would still have to pay this amount for my housing. Despite efforts to persuade an exception, I have been told that there is no way the university can avoid the upcharge.
I have been doing everything I can to save money, but the cost of attendance along with other necessities such as a computer and textbooks have been adding up. I can only work part-time hours as my health is not the most stable, but I’m doing my best to make things work.
I’m asking for help in order to ease the stress of having to pay for my housing that is deemed medically necessary in order to thrive in college. Any amount helps, and if you’re not able to donate, sharing would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you so much for your time and generosity.
