Hey, Hello, Ciao, Bonjour!
You may or may not know me. My name is Zuzana Martinkova, but since I remember, everybody calls me just Sju. I am a college student in the last semester of my Master's studies in Film and Media Production.
Since I got into my program, I knew I will have to make a short film as my final thesis movie. I was always a creative mind full of ideas, but it took me months to find out how to connect the two things I love the most. I was wondering how to bring people knowledge about struggles with disabilities and at the same time create something meaningful.
I always pick the more complicated way since I love to challenge myself but putting on a "director "hat is definitely the most complex challenge I decided to beat. Maybe you wonder why did I choose this topic in particular. Above, you can see the picture of my lovely brother, he is autistic, and since I lived all my life alongside him and his fellow friends, I find it even more important to educate people about life with disabilities since it's often massively overlooked. He doesn't talk much, and I always wondered how he deals with his own thoughts when he can not just let them out as we do. How is this life for him?! How does he see it?
My short film is called HOW I SOUND. Before I started attending my school, I wasn't aware either, but most of the money goes into production. It includes permits, locations, crew, transport, postproduction, and now mostly COVID-related expenses. Yeah, the world pandemic made the film industry even more challenging. I would love to be able to premier my short film at a number of festivals which is where the funds would be going towards as well.
If you are wondering... HOW I SOUND is Faith's story. Faith is a young girl whose overwhelming circumstances push her to make a decision to end her life by jumping from the rooftop. However, her death sentence is thwarted by a random girl in a hoodie who somehow knows more than she should. The situation gets even more awkward when Hoodie recites never-released poems of Faith's long-dead father...I don't want to spoil but let me just say that R.C. Lewis's quote ""Just because you don't see something, doesn't mean it isn't there." says a lot about my movie.
Thank you for your support, shares, lovely comments and kindness
Love,
Sju
