Hi, my name is Kelly, i’m 22 years old and I’m trying to save up money to get my own wheelchair that fits my needs.
I became chronically ill in summer 2023, developing chronic stomach pain due to endometriosis, that developed into fibromyalgia, causing pain that affects my entire body.
Because of the pain i also started suffering from me/cfs (chronic fatigue) which got more and more severe over time, causing non epileptic seizures and muscle weakness in the progress.
I also suffer from postural orthostatic tachycardia as a result of a covid infection in may 2022.
Due to my several conditions i cannot walk long distances or stand for a long time, and even walking/standing for short periods of time (with a cane) costs me a lot of energy and causes severe pain and fatigue along with nausea.
i got a wheelchair prescribed by my doctor in October 2024, but my health insurance only covers the renting the standard model, so my wheelchair doesn’t fit me & doesn’t belong to me.
I’ve noticed my quality of life improve dramatically with the use of a wheelchair. It helps me save energy, reduce my symptoms and live life to the fullest.
now i want to get a wheelchair that is customised to my needs, meaning an active wheelchair that fits my size, is comfortable, collapsible and has a motor to help me with my muscle weakness & get up curbs and hills
Wheelchairs are expensive & i had to drop out of college due to my declining health and am currently in the process of applying for disability retirement.
i live alone (i moved out for college) and not all my medications are covered by insurance, so money is pretty tight, which is why i am starting this gofundme!
help me get my joy in life back & enjoy going outside again
i appreciate every donation and support of any kind ❤️
disclaimer:
i dont know the exact amount my wheelchair is going to cost me, 5.000€ is an estimate i made based on my research.
If it costs more i might increase my goal in the future.
If i have money leftover it will only be used for medical purposes for example to pay for my medication.
thank you for taking the time to read this❤️
