My name is Zuzanna Dziewiecka; I'm 22 years old, an international student from Poland. I am also a professional tennis player, a "job" I started 16 years ago, my biggest passion ever since. My father was the most important person in my life, being my guardian, mentor, and tennis coach. We've been spending every day together, playing tennis, traveling for tournaments, and studying. When I was nine years old, my father was diagnosed with cancer, and at that moment, my life changed forever. Every few months, I had to take breaks from tennis because my dad was so weak that he could barely walk. The following years were an interweaving of beautiful moments on the tennis courts and sleepless nights in the hospital halls. When I was 18, my dad passed away, and I knew that my life would never be the same again…
When my dad passed away, I was heartbroken and devasted, not expecting ever to play tennis again. Fortunately, in my lowest moment, I had the incredible support of my family and friends. Thanks to them, I was able to fight for my future and continue my father's legacy. I took my first SAT just three weeks after my dad's death, and my family spent their last money to send me to the United States and give me a chance to start a new chapter. I worked as a tennis coach in Poland, and I was saving money for my school in the U.S.A and ticket flight. Because of financial hardship and my inability to play tennis at that time, I couldn't go to a D1 school, so I chose to play and study at Cañada College in Redwood City, CA, hoping to transfer to a 4-year university one day.
During my time at Cañada College, I played #1 in the singles and doubles lineups. At the same time, I discovered a passion for Psychology, making significant progress towards obtaining a degree in this field. I was very fortunate to meet brilliant people who supported my tennis career and efforts towards transferring. The time I spent at Canada College was very challenging, being forced to combine training, school, and working in the bookstore. The Covid-19 pandemic made things even more complex and forced me to go back to Poland for some time.
After 2.5 years at Cañada College, I am one step away from finally realizing my dream of transferring to a 4-year university. I got admitted to the California State University, Stanislaus, where I received a spot on the Varsity Women's Team. And here is where I need your help. Covid-19 decreased the number of available scholarships such that I wasn't able to get a "full ride." Out of $31,530 (total cost of attendance), my scholarship only covers $10,000. Receiving your help would allow me to continue my progress toward obtaining a bachelor's degree in Psychology and fulfill my dream of playing college tennis in NCAA Division 2.
Would you be able to make a contribution to my cause? A donation of any amount will make a difference and mean so much to me. If you have any questions or would like to talk to me over zoom, don't hesitate to reach out: [email redacted].
I greatly appreciate your time and consideration!
Zuzanna Dziewiecka
