My name is Eyra, and I am 18 years old. Four days ago, my parents were taken from me by ICE while shopping at Walmart to prepare for the winter storm in Buffalo. In a single moment, my life was turned upside down.

My parents and I came to the United States from Nicaragua after fleeing political persecution. They are lawfully present in the U.S., with valid work permits, Social Security numbers, and an active, pending asylum case. They have followed the rules, attended their appointments, and worked hard to build a life here and help me achieve my dream of becoming a nurse. Despite this, they were detained in what feels like an act of racial profiling.

My parents are older and suffer from chronic medical conditions that require ongoing medical care, medication, and rest. Since their detention, I have been living in constant fear for their health and safety. I feel devastated, empty, and helpless. Every day without them feels unbearable. I just want my parents back home.

I am urgently raising funds to cover legal fees and bond costs so my parents can be released and reunited with me. My hope is that we can feel safe again and be together as a family.
