Help Me Fly Away: Freedom Writers Symposium 2023

Hiya Everyone! Before I get into it, I just want to quickly introduce myself. My name is Zorayaliz Rodriguez-Andino, I’m 19, I live in Massachusetts; and I am the next generation of the Freedom Writers. In 2021, my Freedom Writer teacher and I had an incredible opportunity to become a student author and editor, respectively, working with the Freedom Writers Foundation and Penguin Random House. The next generation of students were given the chance to share their stories in hopes to give and receive advice, as well as inspire people of all ages, possibly giving them inspiration to move forward and turn their pain into power.

After a year's long hard work, our book was finally complete (published: march 2022, making me an official published author); thanks to the other 49 student authors, 50 Freedom Writer Teachers and 50 of the Original Freedom Writers with Erin Gruwell, the president of the foundation. Last year for the release of the book we all fundraised enough money to meet up in Long Beach, CA. We were taken to the museum of tolerance, we were a part of live podcasts, mental health rehabilitation, as well as signing over 500+ of our newest book “Dear Freedom Writer” which was a bestseller!

The Freedom Writers have planned for another symposium where the entire “family” will be reunited once again from Tuesday, June 27th - Friday, June 30th at the Hotel Maya in Long Beach, CA. I am graciously seeking sponsors who are willing to help cover the cost of this rather expensive, but educational and possibly life changing trip. Approximately $3,000 alone is needed to cover the cost of transportation to and from California, lodging, meals, and the symposium cost. I am seeking your help to get me there and asking for anything big or small as I know any amount counts. Your support will be much appreciated.

I aspire to impact the world, more specifically the next generation as we grow up into these chaotic and traumatic environments, just as I did.
